Battle of the Redwing 1
Peace. Just got done with a jam. Tired, exhausted, beat, etc. been here since 7:50am setting up my RadioActive Cardboard Tent. Sprinkle of rain from 10am-1:30 pm didn’t help with foot traffic. But lots of passerby’s checking the artwork from time to time. Even had a potential customer wanting a mural to be done at his house. (Update: he gave me a non-working number and never called me lol)
Bboys showed up around 2:00. One big snag, my dj for today called out and said he wasn’t feeling well 30 minutes til the show started. We were in a big dilemma. We were on at 3:00 pm!
Dizon, Jasic, and Muchado put our heads together to come up with a plan. Luckily I had my flash drive and break mixes to put on it. Gave it to the music engineer. And Christian CRS (one of the organizers of the overall event) was able to become the dj for us with what little we had. I hosted it and 26 Bboys were present. We went from a 3 vs 3 comp to a 1 vs 1 because at the start time we didnt have enough competitors. Finally, last minute, the b-boys started to arrive. We then had up to 36 Bboys at one point but unable to enter because some showed up mad late. Overall, dope battles as always. One battle Chon vs Abrahm hyped the crowd as it went to a tie, then another tie. Chon won that battle but the stage and audience was going wild. That bboy energy. Big congrats to b-boy Kiti for the win against b-boy Smash.
Anyways... it’s a dope feeling to put one in the books. But I gotta say, it’s definitely exhausting. After the battles was over, people paid their respects and thanked me. I feel grateful for it all. But after the show curtain is done, I’m left by myself cleaning up my tent, and rolling up the linoleum. Remaining humbled for it all but it does get exhausting doing it from sunrise to sunset. With only 4 cars left in the parking lot. Not blaming anybody. Everybody pulls through the best they can. However, putting in 110% takes its toll.
The sun goes up. The sun goes down. Did I do all that I can do today? I tried. I tried with many people assisting. But at the start of the day and end of the day, I'm left quietly with my thoughts to possibly do it again and left with the cleanup.

Pic: My view at the end of the show. All cars gone. Another successful battle at Filipino Friendship Day 7/7/2018. Love you mom and dad.
